The Apremdo Divisional Stool (ADS) of Ahanta Traditional Council (ATC) has noted with grave concerns, bizarre incidents of fake kidnapping reports being circulated in Western Region.
One of this incidents occurred in Takoradi last Friday when a lady who faked her kidnapping had to be arrested by the Ghana Police Service.
Identified as Joana Krah, a resident of Kojokrom, the lady last Friday faked her kidnapping in an attempt to demand 5000 Ghana cedis from her Godfather, but her plan to extort the money backfired when she was exposed.
She reported herself to the Takoradi Police on Saturday evening after being declared wanted by the Ghana Police Service.
The lady in question has since pleaded guilty to all charges preferred against her by the Takoradi Circuit court A following her prosecution by Police Sargeant Yawson in charge of the case.
The suspect, Joana Krah, a.k.a Akos, 29, has been charged of publication of false news and deceiving a public officer.
She has since been convicted by the court and would accordingly be sentenced on Tuesday, October 26th 2021.
Judge Ampedu Michael who is presiding over the case would deliver the verdict tomorrow.
But, as we all wait patiently and anxiously for the verdict, the Apremdo Divisional Stool would like to condemn the growing phenomenon of fake kidnapping cases being reported in Western Region.
We would like to caution against this disturbing conduct creating tension and insecurity in the Region.
Again, the Divisional Stool would like to commend the Ghana Police Service for constantly acting promptly and decisively in handling these cases of fake kidnapping.
As men in uniform, they must continue on this tangent, and deal drastically with all citizens flouting the laws of the country and taken the laws of the land into their own hands.
We want to use this medium to appeal to Chiefs, Imams, religious leaders, and all stakeholders who matter in this issues to use every means to preach against this disturbing phenomenon.
Insecurity, fear and panic in what ever form, must not be countenanced in the region else we could throw the harmonious peace and stability we enjoy out of control.
Together, let us protect our security architecture, and promote harmony for sustainable development of our region.
