Obrafour’s documentary won’t be premiered until fact-checks are complete – Hammer

Renowned record producer Edward Nana Poku Osei, known in showbiz as Hammer has said that the ‘Lyrics of a legend’ documentary will not be premiered as scheduled until some inaccuracies he has spotted are corrected.

The documentary which was produced and scheduled for premiere on September 27, as part of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Obrafour’s ‘Pae Mu Ka’ album, is punctuated with inconsistencies as accounts given by some of the people who featured in it were incorrect, according to Hammer.

He tells Ghanaweb he called for its suspension because it is unacceptable to put out falsehood.

“The documentary makers sighted contradictions in people’s stories and just kept quiet about it. The book writer also sighted some contradictions and Obrafour is kept in the dark. They want the documentary independent of Obrafour’s critique and opinion and because of that, some of these things are going unchecked. I’m not happy with that,” he says.

“People are making it about themselves. People are finding ways and means to show that they were there when this happened. They were not [there]. They were doing their own businesses; we were doing our thing. We need to fact-check all of these things because we need to tell the youth that Reggie’s story started this whole thing. After Reggie, people came; it was the Obrafour album’s that actually made elders accept hiplife. People have forgotten what really happened at the time. This played a very big role in our music industry and it has to be said right. Because the organisers are in a hurry to release, they are creating the situation,” he added while stressing that “No premier is happening. If you want to do a premier, you must fix these things.”

Hammer further mentioned that Obrafour had given him his consent.

He said: “I raised my concerns to Obrafour and the financiers and they agreed with me. It’s pulled back.”

The management had scheduled the premiere of the documentary for September 27, 2019, at the Silverbird Cinema.

Meanwhile, the ‘Pae Mu Ka @20’ concert is expected to come off on November 9, 2019 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
