One of Ghana’s best music producers, Da’hammer of The Last Two fame, has revealed he produced the much-talked about Pae Mu Ka album for the celebrated hip-life musician Obrafour at no cost.
The 10-track maiden album of the musician released in 1999 has this week been trending on social media and grabbed headlines as it marks 20 years.
Da’hammer, who led a four-man production team for the album told Giovani Caleb on 3FM DriveWednesday that he decided to make a mark with it, hence the decision not to charge Obrafour for the work they did.
“I didn’t get a cedi out of it; we wanted to make a statement with this project and we are glad we did,” he stated.
Da’hammer explained when Abraham Ohene Djan contacted him to produce the album and asked how much he would charge, he responded: “All I need is for you [Ohene Djan] to write The Last Two at the end”.
“It was our first time doing this, all the four member team on this project and Obrafuor himself had no professional experience, we were all new to this but it was a risk we took happily,” he added.
Twenty years on, Hammer said they have not regretted the pro bono services they rendered on the album, which has arguably become one of the best ever to be produced in the country’s hip-life industry.
