When all cinema halls across the country are opening their arms to welcome Zylofon Arts Fund, Silverbird Cinema is busy singing “we no dey see you sef”.
The Nigerian-owned company has said no to a deal offered by the arts fund to help boost the movie industry in Ghana.
Frank Kwabena Owusu, PRO for Zylofon Arts Fund in an interview with Zionfelix on Radio Univers in Accra disclosed that they approached Silverbird Cinemas to strike a 60/40 deal in favour of movie producers who premiere their films at the hall but they said no to them.
According to Franky5, he believes they are not ready to help movie producers earn money from their sweat.
He further disclosed that Silvrbird Cinema is the only firm in the country which rejected their offer to help Ghanaian movie producers but other ten cinema halls in the country agreed to their request.
“Silverbird Cinema is not ready to go into agreement with us (Zylofon Arts Fund). We have approached them. We have gone there to discuss this same thing that we have gone acrosss the country to discuss with everybody but they are the only people who said no, they are not ready to do that kind of agreement.
They said it is either we come and pay for the hall or we should just forget it so I can say that we don’t have any relationship with them” Franky5 told Zionfelix on Brunch2Lunch entertainment show.
Mr. Owusu further stated that Zylofon Arts Fund has however signed a deal with about ten cinema halls across the country which have agreed to the 60/40 share.
He was quick to add that Ghanaian producers will only benefit from the policy only when they, Zylofon Arts Fund present the movie to the owners of the hall for the showing but not when the producer walks to the cinema halls to premiere the film.
Mentioning some of the ten cinema halls they have sealed the deal with, Frank Kwabena Owusu named Watch and Dine Cinema in Kumasi, Eusbett Cinema in Sunyani and others.
The Public Relation Officer also told Zionfelix during the chat that Global Cinema and the National Theater in Accra have agreed to the terms and will start premiering movies they will submit to them.
