Iranian politician Ali Motahari believes France reached the final of the World Cup through the sweats of players with African roots.

According to him, it is unfair that nations like France profit from players of other countries, yet when the glory comes it all goes to the European nation. He, therefore, called on world football governing body FIFA to do something about the current situation, describing it as “unfair competition”.

“At the World Cup we have teams who profit from players of other countries, with the justification that these players have the nationality of their team. This has undermined and created an unfair situation in the international competition,” Motahari wrote.

“For example, the French team has a large number of players from various African nations, it’s not really the French team it’s effectively the team of France and its former colonies. “The same situation, although less serious, applies to Belgium and Germany. The fact that they include a number of African giants shows their weakness at football.”

His comments come after France reached the final of the World Cup following a narrow 1-0 win over Belgium in the semi-final. Les Bleus won that game through a solitary goal from Samuel Umtiti – a player with roots from the African continent. Meanwhile, Iran failed to make it out of their group after managing just a win in three games.
